The Big Cross Country Move-Don't Put Some Important Things On That Moving Van
After talking with some of my buyers who moved across country recently, I decided to start a list of things to do and leave out of the packing boxes when moving. So often people pack up everything and wish certain items had been left out of the “big” move. Some things would be better shipped separately or taken on a plane so they are available when needed.
Please feel free to comment and let me know if you think of something buyers should leave out of the “big” move. Help add to this list.
Things to do or take:
Keep financial documents handy if you have not already closed on your new home. You may need your bank statements, brokerage statements, W-2 forms, etc. even if your loan is already approved. With today’s changing mortgage market, financing packages may be reviewed by lenders prior to closing, so don’t put any of this paperwork on the moving truck.
Take photos of each room in your home before you start packing things up. The photos may help you place your furniture more easily in your home. Measure your furniture, so you know how to place it in your new home.
Taking the refrigerator, washer and dryer? Know whether your appliances will fit, so measure them.
Take
paint samples and color swatches from your current home. You may decide to match paint colors you used in your present home.
Include any fabric samples from chairs, couches, throw pillows, duvet covers, etc.
Take a small tool kit and painting materials.
Measuring tape and box cutter (only if it is shipped or in checked luggage)
First Aid Kits
