Is this NYC or Seattle?

NYC-gray days, Is this Seattle

I just returned from NYC and the Inman News Real Estate Connect conference, one of the best real estate conferences out there. Here’ s a photo of the view from my hotel room. When I looked outside at the low clouds and blowing rain, I couldn’t help but feel ”at home.” The view of the Hudson River was pretty gray and wet. I was on the 32nd floor of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. (Of course, there are just a few more buildings in New York than in Seattle.)

While at the conference, I had a chance to hear some great speakers talk about the state of the economy and real estate, with some suggestions for the future. I’ll be sharing some of what I learned over the next week, mostly on The Seattle PI Real Estate Professionals Blog.  I’ll link to a couple of articles from that site to keep you in the loop.  Stay tuned!

Nice post Debra! I missed this Inman conference (but enjoyed SF and last year’s NYC conference).

I have some experience, but I saw the Hudson in your photo right off. NYC is a little louder than Seattle too, eh?

I was a little bummed that Brad did not schedule “duets” like at the last two … Did they have a bloggers connect this time?

    Hi Joe,

NYC is definitely louder than Seattle, but the NY energy is kind of fun. This was my second Connect and was great. Brad always does a great job. There was only one duet between Craig Newmark of Craig’s list and a VP of the NY Times.

Blogger’s Connect did happen and I always learn something there. Kris Berg, Teresa Boardman, Jay Thompson, Brian Brady, and Dustin Luther all spoke.

    Are you from Canada, eh?

Very interesting to read about this area here. I’m always fascinated to read of new places and to see the ways that people view their community. It’s extraordinarily important for the real estate professional to have a sense of these things; can you think of 5 other things that are important to success in this market?

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for stopping by. Hmm, 5 things for success, here goes a few thoughts. Put clients needs first by responding to their needs, move from print advertising to internet marketing, blog about your area, know the stats and present them to clients in a meaningful manner. How is that for a start?
